Transforming Astra Zeneca’s People’s Hub with Garran Lockers

Background: Located at AstraZeneca’s 101-acre Macclesfield campus, the building constructed in 1992 served as a pharmaceuticals production facility for many years. As time passed, it became an eyesore and was selected for a complete refurbishment. The goal was to convert it into the central hub for the 4,000 employees based at the site. This People’s Hub is integral to AstraZeneca’s employee engagement strategy, aiming to enhance collaboration and connectivity among teams. The refurbished facility will not only house 150 employees but also function as a multi-purpose communal space, featuring breakout areas, meeting rooms, and a café for all employees and visitors.

Objective: The primary objective was to provide a locker solution that would seamlessly integrate into the newly refurbished People’s Hub. The lockers needed to support the facility’s dual purpose as an office and communal space, enhancing the overall aesthetic while providing secure storage solutions.

Implementation Steps

    Assessment and Planning:
  • Conducted a comprehensive site assessment to understand the refurbishment project’s requirements.
  • Collaborated with Tsunami Axis and AstraZeneca to develop an installation plan, considering delivery and access restrictions.
  • Design and Customisation:
  • Created a complex design incorporating lockers into cubicle banks and used them as room dividers.
  • Ensured the design complemented the People’s Hub’s modern aesthetic while providing practical storage solutions.
  • Coordination and Installation:
  • Worked closely with the main contractor to schedule deliveries that met the project’s timeline and access restrictions.
  • Implemented the installation smoothly, minimizing disruption to ongoing refurbishment activities.
  • Testing and Feedback:
  • Conducted thorough testing of the locker installations to ensure they met security and functionality standards.

Results

Enhanced Functionality:
The lockers provided secure and accessible storage for employees, integrating seamlessly into the facility’s design.
Improved Aesthetics:
The innovative use of lockers as room dividers added to the modern and collaborative environment of the People’s Hub.
On-Time Delivery:
Despite the challenging delivery and access restrictions, the project was completed on schedule, demonstrating effective planning and coordination.

Conclusion:
The installation of Garran Lockers at AstraZeneca’s People’s Hub was a success, transforming an outdated building into a modern, collaborative space that enhances employee engagement. The lockers not only provided practical storage solutions but also contributed to the aesthetic and functional goals of the refurbishment project. A significant part of this success can be attributed to the exceptional performance of the Garran install team. Their meticulous planning, coordination with the main contractor, and adaptability to challenging delivery and access restrictions ensured that the project was completed on schedule without any issues. The team’s dedication and expertise were crucial in achieving the high standards required for this prestigious project.
